What is this tool?

The GPU Stress Test executes an authentic browser-based graphics workload using WebGL 2.0 (with WebGL 1.0 fallback) to evaluate graphics card rendering performance and thermal stability.

The workload combines 3D geometry instance matrix transformations with iterative fragment shader calculations (procedural 3D noise and raymarching) running directly on your GPU hardware.

Configurable stress tiers (Light, Medium, High, Extreme) and render scales (50% to 200%) let you evaluate how your graphics card handles varying geometric densities and pixel shading loads.

The tool honestly distinguishes browser-accessible rendering performance from proprietary hardware sensors, never fabricating GPU temperature, VRAM usage, or GPU utilization percentages.

How to use it

  1. Select stress level and durationChoose your desired test duration (e.g. 30s, 1m, 3m) and stress level (Light, Medium, High, Extreme). On mobile or low-power devices, start with Light or Medium.
  2. Configure render scaleSelect render scaling from 50% up to 200% to test pixel fill-rate boundaries. The canvas automatically caps dimensions safely to prevent out-of-memory framebuffer crashes.
  3. Start the GPU stress testClick 'Start GPU Stress Test'. The 3D procedural canvas begins rendering immediately, while the live monitor tracks instant FPS, average FPS, frame time, and frame stability.
  4. Observe the live FPS activity curveWatch the real-time 60-second FPS graph to observe whether your GPU maintains smooth frame pacing or experiences thermal/driver throttling.
  5. Stop the test anytimeClick 'STOP TEST' whenever you want to immediately halt rendering, release all GPU shader and vertex buffers, and view your finalized session statistics.

What the results mean

Average FPS & Min/Max FPS

The mean frame rate delivered across the test session, along with the lowest and highest recorded frame rate spikes after initial warmup.

Frame Time & Jitter

Average time in milliseconds required to render each frame (e.g. 16.6 ms at 60 FPS, 6.9 ms at 144 FPS).

Frame Stability Rating

Calculates the percentage of rendered frames that landed within ±20% of the mean frame time, classifying pacing into Stable, Variable, or Highly Variable.

Tips

  • Keep the browser tab active and focused during testing, as modern browsers aggressively throttle background tabs to 1 FPS to conserve power.
  • Click the Fullscreen icon to maximize GPU pipeline priority and bypass operating system window desktop compositing layers.
  • If your device's fans spin up or the chassis warms up, this confirms that genuine hardware GPU rendering is taking place. Stop the test if your device becomes excessively hot.

Troubleshooting

The test displays 'WebGL is not supported'.

Hardware acceleration is disabled in your browser settings or your graphics driver is disabled. Enable hardware acceleration in your browser's Advanced Settings and refresh the page.

Why doesn't the test display GPU temperature or VRAM usage?

Standard browser security sandboxes do not expose hardware temperature diodes or low-level memory controller registers. Websites that display temperature are either guessing or fabricating values.

The test stopped and reported context lost.

Your graphics driver restarted due to memory pressure or a timeout (TDR). Select a lower stress level or smaller render scale and run the test again.
