What is Keyboard Ghosting?
Keyboard ghosting occurs when pressing multiple keys together results in unexpected or missing key registrations. On older or entry-level membrane keyboards, keys are wired in a shared electrical matrix grid. When three keys forming a rectangle in the electrical circuit are pressed down simultaneously, current leaks across the circuit, confusing the controller and creating a "ghost" stroke or forcing the keyboard to block additional inputs completely.
Modern keyboards mitigate this with anti-ghosting matrices, isolated circuits, and diodes on mechanical switches.
