About Real Test Keyboard

Real Test Keyboard is a free online keyboard tester that checks every key, button, chatter and latency — right in your browser, with nothing to download.

What Real Test Keyboard is

Real Test Keyboard is a free online keyboard test designed to answer one simple question: does every key on your keyboard actually work? Instead of guessing, you open the tool, press each key, and watch it light up — with a clear pass-or-fail verdict once every key has registered. It works with laptop, MacBook and desktop keyboards, and it runs entirely in your browser.

What you can test

  • Every key and button across Full (104-key), TKL and 60% layouts, with an ANSI/ISO toggle so the Enter and left-Shift match your hardware.
  • Chatter and double-firing from worn mechanical switches, flagged when a key re-fires within about 40 milliseconds of release.
  • A per-key press counter that shows exactly how many times each key registered.
  • Key latency and response through a live developer event inspector.
  • Multiple keys at once, so you can check rollover and anti-ghosting on gaming keyboards.

How the keyboard test works

The tester matches each press to its physical key position, so the correct key lights up no matter which language layout you use. It times the gap between a key's release and its next press to flag possible chatter, and aCapture keys mode lets you safely test Tab, Space, the arrow keys and the function row without the browser stealing them. Everything updates instantly as you type — try the keyboard tester and see for yourself.

Private and free, by design

We think a keyboard tester should be effortless and trustworthy. That's why Real Test Keyboard needs no account, shows no intrusive ads gating the tool, and never sends your keystrokes anywhere — the whole test happens locally in your browser. The only thing saved is your layout and theme preference, kept on your own device. You can read the details in ourPrivacy Policy.

Who it's for

Gamers checking rollover and anti-ghosting, writers and typists chasing a key that occasionally misses, developers inspecting key codes and events, and anyone buying, selling, repairing or refurbishing a keyboard who needs a quick, reliable check.
