About Mouse / Touch Input
This tool helps inspect mouse, pointer, and touch input events directly in the browser. It reports live pointer coordinates, mouse button actuation, wheel scrolling, click counts, and multi-touch contact points using only native browser event streams — no plugins, no server uploads.
How to use
- 01Move your mouse inside the test area to track live pointer coordinates.
- 02Click the Left, Middle, or Right mouse buttons to detect actuation.
- 03Rotate the scroll wheel to verify wheel direction and accumulation.
- 04On a touchscreen, place one or more fingers to trigger multi-touch.
- 05Review the detected input type, last event, and touch points below.
- 06Press Reset Values to clear the counters and return to the idle state.
Mouse & Touch Input Guide
How Mouse Movement is Measured
The browser evaluates cursor coordinates relative to the bounding box of the interactive test surface. High-polling-rate gaming mice (1,000Hz to 8,000Hz) deliver smooth pointer interpolation batched through native requestAnimationFrame cycles.
Mouse Switch Testing (Left, Middle, Right)
Each physical switch press dispatches mousedown and mouseup events. Right-clicking inside the testing surface suppresses the default browser context menu to allow unobstructed switch health testing.
Scroll Wheel Encoder Health
Rotary encoders translate physical notches into discrete deltaY increments. If values fluctuate erratically or skip backward, encoder contacts may require physical cleaning or maintenance.
Multi-Touch Capacitive Digitizers
Touch events deliver raw contact arrays containing touch identifiers, relative coordinates, and contact radius dimensions. Modern capacitive displays support up to 10 simultaneous touches.
Input Testing & Calibration Guide
Mouse Button Diagnostics
Verify physical microswitches across Left, Middle (scroll click), and Right buttons. The tool detects both instantaneous clicks and continuous press-and-hold states.
Scroll Wheel Encoder Testing
Test optical and mechanical scroll encoders. The scroll accumulator records wheel delta values, helping you spot reversed scrolling, loose notches, or stuttering wheel steps.
Mouse Position & Tracking
Real-time XY coordinates track optical sensor response across the interactive surface, confirming smooth pointer interpolation without stutter or dropped reports.
Multi-Touch Point Detection
Verify capacitive touchscreen digitizers by placing multiple fingers simultaneously. The tool tracks individual pointer identifiers, contact radii, and trajectory coordinates.
Click Counter Verification
Track consecutive clicks across gaming sessions or fast clicking drills. The click counter monitors single and repeated actuation counts with zero debounce penalty.
Fullscreen Testing Environment
Expand the test surface to full screen for distraction-free mouse tracking sweeps, swipe gestures, and edge-to-edge multi-finger touch verification.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How does this online mouse and touch test work?▼
This test captures browser MouseEvent, WheelEvent, and TouchEvent streams in real time. When you move, click, scroll, or touch within the interactive surface, native browser events immediately update coordinate telemetry, button actuation states, and touch point positions with zero server latency.
2. Can I test Right Click without opening the browser menu?▼
Yes! The interactive testing surface prevents the browser's default context menu on right clicks, allowing you to test your mouse's right switch freely and confirm that the Right Button indicator lights up as PRESSED.
3. How does the Mouse Scroll Value work?▼
When you rotate your mouse scroll wheel, the browser emits WheelEvents containing vertical delta (deltaY) values. Scrolling upward subtracts from the scroll accumulator, while scrolling downward adds to it. This verifies that your mouse encoder is functioning without skipping or jumping in the wrong direction.
4. How many simultaneous touch points can be detected?▼
This tool dynamically tracks every contact point reported by your device's touchscreen digitizer. Most modern smartphones and tablets support between 5 and 10 simultaneous touches. Each finger receives a numbered visual marker and real-time coordinate badge.
5. Can this test detect mouse switch chatter (double clicks)?▼
Yes. Every individual click increments the Click Count metric. If a single physical press increments the counter by 2, your mouse switch may be experiencing contact bounce or chatter. For specialized microsecond debounce timing, check our dedicated Double-Click Test.
6. Why do touch markers disappear when I lift my finger?▼
The tool monitors active `touchstart`, `touchmove`, and `touchend` lifecycles. Markers accurately reflect active physical contact on your display and disappear when fingers are released to give you a clean, real-time picture of multi-touch capability.
7. How do I enter and exit fullscreen mode?▼
Click the 'Open Fullscreen Test' button at the bottom of the workspace. The interactive test area expands to fill your entire display. You can exit fullscreen anytime by clicking 'Exit Fullscreen' or pressing the Escape key on your keyboard.
8. Is my mouse movement or touch data uploaded to a server?▼
No. All mouse coordinates, click counts, scroll telemetry, and touch points are computed 100% locally within your browser sandbox. No input telemetry is recorded or sent to any remote server.
9. Does this tool work on mobile devices and tablets?▼
Yes! The interface is fully responsive. On touch devices, placing multiple fingers inside the test surface will instantly trigger multi-touch detection and display circular numbered markers for each active touch contact.
10. What causes erratic mouse scrolling or skipping?▼
Erratic wheel scrolling is often caused by dust or lint accumulated inside the mechanical scroll wheel encoder wheel, or optical sensor degradation in optical encoders. Cleaning the scroll wheel with compressed air frequently resolves scrolling bounce.
