FOR BETTER RESULTS

  • Use high-resolution images (150 DPI or more for scans)
  • Keep text horizontal, sharp, and well-lit
  • Prefer strong contrast (dark text on a light background)
  • Crop away unrelated artwork or borders
  • Avoid heavy compression artifacts and blur

OCR accuracy is never perfect — it depends on image quality, text clarity, language, lighting, font, and resolution.

HOW IT WORKS

  1. 1.You pick an image — our code validates its format and size, then decodes it entirely in your browser (canvas + createImageBitmap).
  2. 2.The Tesseract.js OCR engine runs inside a Web Worker, analyzing the actual pixels of your image while the page stays responsive.
  3. 3.You get the recognized text as plain text — safely rendered, never as HTML — ready to copy or download.
  4. 4.The image and results live in memory only: no storage, no uploads, no server logs.
Frequently Asked Questions

Image to Text FAQs

Honest answers about browser-based OCR, privacy, and supported formats.

What is an Image to Text (OCR) generator?

OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is technology that analyzes the pixels of an image, finds letter shapes, and converts them into editable, selectable text characters. This tool takes your image, recognizes the text inside it, and gives you the plain-text result.

Is this Image to Text tool free?

Yes. It is completely free with no usage limits, no sign-up, no watermarks, and no downloads required.

Do you upload my images to a server?

No. Your image is decoded and processed entirely inside your own browser using the open-source Tesseract.js OCR engine. The image never leaves your device and is never uploaded to our servers. The OCR engine code and language data files are downloaded once from the public jsDelivr CDN (the same infrastructure the official Tesseract.js project recommends) and then cached in your browser.

Which image formats are supported?

JPG/JPEG, PNG, WEBP, and BMP are fully supported. Animated GIFs are processed using their first frame, which is what browsers decode for display. Maximum file size is 10 MB.

Which languages can it detect?

The language chips in this tool cover 25 languages supported by the Tesseract.js LSTM models, including English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Tamil, Arabic, and Simplified Chinese. You can select up to 3 languages at once; the underlying engine supports more, but this list is what the on-page selector offers.

Is the text extraction accurate?

Accuracy depends on image quality — resolution, sharpness, contrast, lighting, font, and rotation all matter. For clean printed text, Tesseract LSTM accuracy is high and commonly used in production OCR applications. Handwriting, artistic fonts, tilted or low-quality photos, and decorative layouts often need several extraction attempts or a re-crop to get good results.

Why is the first extraction slow?

On the first run, your browser downloads the OCR engine (a few hundred KB of code) and the language data file for the languages you selected. These files are cached afterward, so subsequent extractions start instantly and can even work offline.

Does it work offline?

After a first successful run, the OCR engine and language data are stored in your browser cache, so extraction continues to work without internet until those cached files are cleared.

Can I edit the result?

Yes. The extracted text appears in an editable text box so you can fix words manually before copying or downloading the final .txt file.

What does 'No text detected' mean?

The OCR pass completed successfully on your image but the engine could not confidently find any characters (for example, the image had no text, the text was too small/blurry, or the wrong language was selected). Try a clearer image or a different language.

Can I use it on mobile?

Yes. The workspace stacks vertically on phones. You can pick images from your camera roll or take a photo directly from the file picker on most devices.

Are my images stored anywhere?

No. We do not store, log, or transmit your images. The preview is displayed from an in-memory object URL that is destroyed as soon as you remove the image or close the page.

Why should I choose this over other OCR tools?

Because it is 100% browser-based: your image never gets uploaded, you don't need to sign up or install anything, and it supports 25 languages for free, unlimited use on desktop and mobile.
