Open GPU BenchmarkWhat is this tool?
The GPU Benchmark executes a standardized, deterministic graphics workload in your browser. It renders nested gimbal rings, orbiting crystalline polyhedra, and lit surface grids using compiled GLSL vertex and fragment shaders.
The test incorporates a mandatory 2.0-second pipeline warm-up period that pre-compiles shaders and stabilizes memory allocations before recording frame telemetry via performance.now().
Calculates real-time Average/Min/Max FPS, frame intervals in milliseconds, frame drops (>25ms), and a transparent, reproducible benchmark score based on actual rendering throughput.
How to use it
- Select a benchmark presetChoose from Quick (10s), Balanced (30s standard), Performance (30s high-load), or Extreme (60s super-sampling). Alternatively, configure custom duration and render scales.
- Start the benchmarkClick 'Start Benchmark'. The tool begins with a 2.0-second warm-up phase to eliminate cold-start shader compilation jitter.
- Keep the browser tab activeDo not minimize or switch tabs during testing, as browsers throttle background tabs down to 1 FPS to conserve power.
- Analyze results and exportReview your official Benchmark Score, Performance Tier (S+ to D), frame stability percentage, and export the session report as formatted text or JSON.
What the results mean
Benchmark Score
A transparent, mathematically calculated score based on average FPS, frame drop penalties, and preset workload weights: Score = round(Avg FPS × 100 × (1 - Drop Rate %) × Weight).
Average, Min, and Max FPS
The mean, lowest, and highest recorded frame rates delivered by your graphics processor during the active measurement phase.
Frame Drops & Stability
Counts the number of rendered frames that took longer than 25ms, calculating the pacing stability percentage of your system.
Render Scale & Resolution
Displays the internal drawing buffer pixel dimensions, proving whether native display scaling or super-sampling was active.
Tips
- Keep this browser tab focused during testing to prevent power-saving frame rate throttling.
- Plug laptops into AC power and set your OS power profile to High Performance for consistent GPU clock speeds.
- Close background 3D applications or GPU-accelerated video encoders to ensure reliable score comparisons.
Troubleshooting
Why is FPS capped at 60 or 144?
Browsers synchronize animation loops to your display refresh rate via VSync (requestAnimationFrame). To achieve higher frame rates, connect a high-refresh monitor.
Why does the benchmark not show GPU temperature or VRAM?
Standard browser security sandboxes strictly prevent websites from reading low-level motherboard diodes or VRAM registers. Any website claiming to show temperature in a browser is faking values.
The test stopped and reported 'Graphics Context Lost'.
Your graphics driver restarted due to memory pressure or an OS timeout (TDR) under extreme settings. Select a lower preset and rerun.
