What is this tool?

Speech to Text converts spoken words into editable digital text directly inside your browser using the native Web Speech API (SpeechRecognition or webkitSpeechRecognition).

Continuous recognition captures ongoing speech, distinguishing between interim predictions and finalized phrases so you can see your words appear with minimal delay.

The tool includes built-in multilingual support covering English (India, US, UK), Hindi, and major international languages, along with live word and character counters, clipboard copying, and .txt file export.

How to use it

  1. Select your spoken languageChoose your language and dialect from the dropdown menu (e.g. English India or Hindi) so the recognition engine uses the correct acoustic and language models.
  2. Grant microphone accessClick 'Start Recording'. When your browser prompts for microphone permissions, click 'Allow' to begin capturing voice input.
  3. Speak clearly into your microphoneSpeak at a steady pace. Interim speech appears in a live preview bubble, and finalized text automatically populates the main transcript area.
  4. Edit, copy, or download your transcriptYou can click directly inside the transcript editor to make adjustments. Use 'Copy Text' to copy to clipboard or 'Download TXT' to save your transcript locally.

Tips

  • Use an external USB or headset microphone for the highest transcription accuracy in noisy environments.
  • Select your native dialect (such as English India vs English US) to improve recognition of regional accents.
  • Speak punctuation commands or easily format text directly in the transcript editor after dictation.

Troubleshooting

The browser says speech recognition is not supported.

The Web Speech API is supported primarily in Chromium-based browsers (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Samsung Internet). If you are using Firefox or an older browser, switch to a supported browser.

Microphone permission was denied.

Click the lock or camera/mic icon on the left side of your browser address bar, set Microphone to 'Allow', and refresh the page.

No speech is detected when I speak.

Ensure your microphone is properly connected, selected as the default input device in your operating system settings, and not muted by a physical switch.
